Is there a guarantee my jar will work? / How do spell jars work?
Think of spell jars as similar to prayers – but with crafts. When you are assembling your jar, you are asking for what you want or need to be attracted to you. By using traditional and intentional ingredients, you are making it very, very clear what you are asking for and amplifying your intentions. Whether or not these requests come to pass depends on you and your personal path. This isn’t Harry Potter movie magic and it can’t fix your life – so no, there’s no guarantee. You should use these kits, and any witchcraft practice, with the intention of following through with any opportunities that come along your path – and putting in the work necessary to achieve your goals. Sometimes spell jars don’t bring what you asked for, but what was best for you instead, so be open to alternative possibilities. Sometimes choices we make or outside forces throw us completely off that path and you have to reset. Staying focused and intentional beyond jar making can help align your life with your goals. Spell jars should be considered a personal motivator, a physical reminder of your goals, and a tool for personal manifestation.
Do I really have to wait for the ideal moon phase?
You can do your spell jar kit at any moon phase, however it won’t be as traditionally aligned or symbolic of your intention, which may weaken focus. Workings that build or attract are aligned with Waxing Moon phases, which represent growth and momentum as the moon gets bigger and brighter. Workings that banish or release align best with a Waning Moon as it decreases in light, representing letting go and letting things fade away. The New Moon is a time for renewal. A fresh start for ending cycles that needed to close, and a dark quiet place for introspection. The Full Moon is a phase for power and amplification. When the moon is at its brightest, it is traditionally used to represent empowerment, person strength, and psychic development. If you choose to do your kit during a different moon phase than recommended, it can be helpful to modify your intention to align with the lunar rhythm. For example if you are doing a money attraction spell during a waning moon, you can phrase it that you are releasing debt and poor financial habits instead of attracting growth. This keeps your intention aligned with the moon phase without changing the intended outcome of your working.
I made a mistake while making my jar – do I have to start over or buy a new kit?
No, you don’t need a new kit nor do you need to start over. Mistakes happen and in these circumstances intentions matter more than following “rules.” If you mixed up a layering order for an ingredient or forgot to say something you were “meant” to – it is perfectly ok to take a deep breath and speak aloud the words you forgot, or re-state the intention of the ingredient as you placed it in a different layer. Your jar will not be affected by this unless you allow it to be. Your jar works off your intentions and the energy you put into it, so if you can calmly brush off “mistakes” your jar will pay them no mind.
Why does my kit smell smokey?
I burn sage to allow the smoke to cleanse everything while assembling kits so that my own personal energy does not affect the energy of the ingredients.
What do I do with my jar if I no longer need it?
Traditionally when you are done with a spell jar, you “return it to the earth” by burying it. If you would rather not bury it, modern witches find it perfectly ok to use other earth friendly methods like recycling or repurposing. You can return the herbs and crystals to the ground and recycle or reuse the jar. You can cleanse the crystals and keep them or use them for other workings. You can burn the herbs and your intention parchment in a safe manner (research the herbs first and take precautions for those that cannot be safely inhaled.)
Why do I need to seal the jar with wax? Is this step neccessary?
Sealing the jar with wax is both traditional and practical. Traditionally it represents sealing your intention inside the jar. Practically, it is helpful in preventing pantry pests like beetles from getting into a corked jar to get to the herbs or flowers. If you truly don’t want to seal with wax you can replace the included corked jar with another glass jar with an airtight glass or tin lid to prevent pantry pests from getting inside.
